It’s been 16 years since the Giants pulled off one of the greatest upsets in Super Bowl history, shocking the previously undefeated Patriots to cap off an improbable championship run.
It was a run that Gio says will never be matched again in the history of the sport, especially when looking at the teams New York had to beat along the way.
“The greatest postseason run in the history of the NFL,” Gio said. “It is impossible to have a better one unless you have another undefeated team going into the Super Bowl.”
After taking down the Buccaneers in the Wild Card round, the 10-6 Giants then went into Dallas and stunned the 13-4 Cowboys, then silence nearly 73,000 fans in Lambeau Field by shocking the 14-4 Packers in overtime to reach the Super Bowl.
There, they took down one of the best teams of all time in New England, a team that would unquestionably hold the label for best ever, had the Giants not had anything to say about it.
“It’s going to be impossible to top the Giants in 2007,” Gio said. “To go into Dallas, to go into Lambeau, and then beat Tom Brady and the undefeated Patriots? You can’t write a script better than that. it will never get any better than that.”
