The NFL can be a cutthroat business at times, and Gio says the Giants will have to take that kind of approach when it comes to Saquon Barkley.

If Gio was Joe Schoen, he would only consider two options for Barkley. Franchise tag his running back, or move on.

“There’s two ways to handle it, and no room for anything else,” Gio said. “One is you don’t re-sign him and let him go somewhere else. The second thing is you franchise tag him and pay him $10 million for one year.”

Boomer mentioned that a franchise tag rather than a new contract after a 1,000-yard season wouldn’t sit well with Barkley, but Gio says the team can’t afford to be worried about that.

Sure, it could set Schoen up to be the villain, but it would be the best move for the team.

“I don’t care what he wants,” Gio said. “I’m sorry. This is in the CBA.
We’ve seen it a million times. What is he gonna do? What do you want, not sign the franchise tag and be Le’Veon Bell and ruin the rest of your career? It’s in the CBA, I’m allowed to do it.”
