Back together for the first time in a week, Boomer and Gio spent part of Monday’s show breaking down the first episode of Offseason Hard Knocks featuring the Giants, and what stood out the most to Gio were Joe Schoen’s comments about Daniel Jones.
The Giants GM said it was “the year for Daniel,” and expressed continued belief in his quarterback as he makes his way back from a miserable season that was cut short by ACL surgery. Schoen added that even Patrick Mahomes wouldn’t have been able to succeed behind the offensive line that Big Blue had at the line of scrimmage last season, another show of faith for Jones.
Was it faith, or pressure?
“There was a lot of Joe Schoen putting pressure on Daniel Jones in this episode,” Gio said. “‘He’s gotta do it. we’re paying him $40 million. This is a big year for Daniel. It’s gotta be Daniel.’
“Joe Schoen was talking about all the injuries too…it was interesting. All the public defending of Jones, with final say on the edits, they left in Schoen putting a lot of these doubts and pressure on Daniel Jones. They’re sending a message.”
With the Giants having final cut for the show, Gio says the fact that Schoen’s comments were left in the show could suggest that the team is sending a message to its quarterback, while Boomer still believes that the team is simply not sold on Jones.
“They’d like for him to be here for three more years, meaning he’s gonna have a big year this year,” Boomer said. “But really, we know that contract is a two-year deal, and they can get out of it…they say he’s their guy, is gonna be their guy, but they’re not totally sold.”
