Gio: John Mara must be 'pissed off' watching Giants become 'complete afterthought in New York sports'
Gio sounded off on the state of the Giants after Sunday’s loss to the Commanders, and says ownership should be “pissed” at what he’s been watching on the field this season.
“This is why John Mara really has to love Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll,” Gio said. “And I still believe, even after this season and the way it's going, they should stick with those guys in this next draft.
“This is why John Mara is gonna be pissed off. Just put yourself in his shoes for a second. The last home game they had, Saquon Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles steamroll his team. The guy that he didn't want to let go, certainly didn't want to go to the Eagles, he's running all over the place. He was close to his career high, and they pull him out of the game because it was a blowout. Next time he's at home, you get Jayden Daniels, this young quarterback who is pumping life into a franchise who has been dead forever. They got a new owner, they're 7-2, they're gonna go to the playoffs, and what is your team? What is your team?”
Mara was reluctant to move on from Barkley, but let his GM and head coach do what they felt was best for the team. The running back torched the Giants at home, and now, the quarterback that New York had interest in drafting continued his magical rookie season against Daniel Jones, who feels like a quarterback nearing the end of his time in New York. All the while, the Giants seem stuck in neutral, lacking a clear direction in what is year three of the Schoen and Daboll era.
“They're an afterthought in the NFL, they're an afterthought in New York sports and they're going nowhere,” Gio said. “So they have to get that guy somehow, some way. That's the only way it's gonna change.”
