Gio: New Orleans is 'the perfect test' for Tommy DeVito and his future

Tommy Cutlets has taken the Tri-State by storm, but as he takes his cutlets down to the Big Easy and the land of crawfish, Gio, for one, thinks Sunday will be the ‘perfect test’ for DeVito-Mania.

“The theme of the week is Tommy DeVito and where he goes from here, and I think this is the perfect test for Tommy DeVito to continue this path to stardom,” Gio said Friday. “The Saints are a little harder than what he’s been dealing with, but it’s not the ultimate test of going into Philadelphia and winning. I think it’s a team the Giants can beat on the road, and I don’t think he’s running into a buzzsaw.”

And if they win and get to 6-8 and the Passing Paisan’s legend grows, well, Philly on Christmas Day is house money.

“If the Giants win and Tommy DeVito plays better than Derek Carr, and this thing grows, going into that Philadelphia game, you have nothing to lose,” GIo said. “But if you lose, and don’t play well, and next week Philadelphia smashes you and the dream is dead, we forget about all of this.”

Let's have hope that doesn't happen, as Gio does.

“I do think he has the capability of being better and getting better, and it’s more likely that he gets better under the tutelage of Brian Daboll than falling completely apart,” Gio said.

“You just hope he doesn’t turn the ball over like Easton Stick did last night, and the game completely gets away from you,” Boomer said. “As I’ve warned, the more tape there is on you, the more people realize what you do naturally and where he goes with the ball. He likes to run right a lot, which I understand as a right-handed quarterback, but I remember sometimes I’d have to reverse my scramble drills so I’d be confident going into a game that I could do it.”

Boomer was doing an interview on current Cincinnati sensation Jake Browning, and realized hearing Browning that coaches simplified pass protections for him from the Pittsburgh game to the Jacksonville game, and because he doesn’t have as much live action, it helped with his indecision.

The same thing can go for DeVito.

“You don’t want to put him in a bad situation on the road in a noisy stadium,” Booms said. “I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few offensive penalties we haven’t seen, but hopefully they’ll simplify things for him, and just let him play naturally and not put too much on his plate in adverse conditions.”

“I think Daboll and Mike Kafka, who were getting murdered when they were 2-8, have this tremendous task on their hands,” Gio replied. “At first, no one expected anything out of DeVito – even them, as they didn’t have him throw the ball against the Jets. But the coaching in this situation, not complicating things too much…this chance to present him a game plan he is comfortable with is critical.”
