Kenny Golladay initially appeared to be yelling at quarterback Daniel Jones on the sidelines during the Giants’ deflating 30-29 loss to Washington last week, but it was later revealed that the wide receiver was having a heated exchange with offensive coordinator Jason Garrett.

Golladay downplayed the exchange after the loss, saying “I let the emotions get the best of me,” and on Wednesday, Garrett stepped up to the podium and assured everyone that there was no lingering tension between him and the team’s big-name free agent signing of the past offseason.

“To me, it’s not a big deal at all,” Garrett said. “We’re excited about having Kenny Golladay here. We liked him a lot in free agency, and we’ve brought him here, and he’s done a really good job for us.

“I love the guy. I love his competitive spirit. We talk a lot about passion, emotion and enthusiasm in our players…he’s a guy who wants to be a part of this thing.”

That was likely part of Golladay’s frustration last Thursday night, as the expected top target for Jones had just eight targets and three receptions for 38 yards on Thursday, after logging just four receptions for 64 yards in Week 1. Golladay appeared to be frustrated with his usage to begin his debut season with Big Blue.

“Missed a lot of time during training camp. He’s done a good job when he’s gotten an opportunity here in the first couple weeks,” Garrett said. “Had a couple in that game the other day that we unfortunately didn’t finish, and probably had some frustration.”

As New York prepared to take on the Falcons, it appears that the exchange has been shrugged off and the focus has turned to getting in the win column for the first time this season.

“That stuff happens on the sideline all the time,” Garrett said. “We ask our players when they’re between the stripes to go out there and compete, battle, scratch and claw, and we can’t say when they come to sidelines that all of a sudden we’re choir boys again. We understand that. I’ve been on the sidelines for a long time. So that happens.

“He and I had a good visit after the game. It’s not an issue at all going forward. There’s always better ways to handle things as you go forward, and there’s always better ways to communicate, but it wasn’t a big deal for me or for our team at all.”
