The Giants offense looked particularly putrid in Sunday’s loss to the Vikings, and Jaxson Dart was front and center.
The rookie quarterback’s struggles in recent weeks continued with a rough performance that included just 33 passing yards in the 16-13 loss. Dart completed just seven of 13 passes, threw and interception, and was sacked five times.
Dart and the Giants finished the first half with -4 net passing yards, the lowest total a Minnesota team had surrendered in 25 years.
Big Blue was heavy with the run game against the Vikings, calling on Dart to hand the ball off for 14 of his first 15 plays. Dart’s interception did come off a dropped pass by Theo Johnson, but his game overall was one of the worst of his young career, and he hasn’t looked as dynamic as he did when Brian Daboll was the head coach.
“It’s just an experience I’ve never been through before,” Dart said after the Giants dropped their ninth straight game. “It doesn’t make it any easier than what it is. Just try your best to stay positive as best you can. It’s a quick turnaround each week.”
The performance on offense was certainly not a good endorsement for Mike Kafka, as the Giants have struggled badly to move the ball since the offensive coordinator took over as interim head coach. Granted, the Giants are clearly lacking in personnel around Dart, especially with Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo out for the year, but nevertheless, Kafka’s odds of returning as head coach are looking slim to none, especially with how Dart has seemingly regressed under his leadership.
