Brian Burns gives the Giants another dynamic pass rusher, and while Jerry doesn’t question his playmaking talent, he is still getting used to the idea of paying the former Panther $150 million over five years.
“I never questioned his ability,” Jerry said. “I guess I have to get used to this…I don’t understand the money…some of these contracts to me just don’t make sense.
“When you have a salary cap and you have a quarterback that takes up a lot of it, and you’re not that good, and you can’t sign players because of it, it’s just a salary thing and a salary structure that I question. That’s it.”
The Giants are already paying Daniel Jones $40 million per year, tying up a lot of money into the most important position on the field. But the salary cap saw a historic rise this year, so the Giants felt comfortable paying Burns to make the trade happen. It is still a figure that Jerry needs to get used to seeing.
“Having seen him more than a couple times, and looking at the numbers, that’s $150 million,” Jerry said. “I’m pretty sure he’ll prove me wrong…but that was it. It was more so the money and the contract more than anything.”
