Giants head coach Joe Judge confused some fans and writers after Sunday’s win, telling reporters that “results are the most deceiving thing in mankind.” In a results-oriented business, New York needs wins in a hurry to overcome its 0-3 start, so Judge’s comments left some scratching their heads after an otherwise joyful weekend for New York.
Gio asked Judge about the comments when the head coach appeared on Boomer and Gio on Tuesday, and Judge reiterated that he is focused more on the process than the final score on Sundays.
“The worst thing you can do is have success doing it the wrong way and thinking that’s the key to success,” Judge said. “You gotta go back and stay focused. We talk about the process all the time, and what does it take to be successful.”
After a disappointing year last season and an 0-3 start to this season, the process didn’t seem to be working for Judge and Big Blue, but it finally came together in a surprise overtime win over the Saints on Sunday. As always, Judge praised his team for its preparation, which may not have changed if the result was a loss.
“We break it down for our players real simple,” Judge said. “What’s your assignment? What’s your technique? Then making sure your executing things right there…then you start finding out when something goes wrong, what step did you bot get right the entire way? But going out there and winging it and just saying ‘hey did it work out the right way?’ Sure, you can’t mistake that for being the way you gotta do things and the key to success.”

Judge was already asked to clarify what he meant by Sunday’s comments when he talked to reporters again on Monday, and he responded saying “If all you’re thinking about are results, you’re never going to get that accomplished.” But the Giants needed results after another bad start to the season, and they finally got some on Sunday.
Still, Judge will keep his focus on the week ahead, and the process over the results.
“We gotta stay focused on what the formula is, how you have to do it,” Judge said. “It’s about learning.”
