Joe Judge on job security with Giants: 'I'm never gonna comment'

Joe Judge does not want to hear any questions about his job security, or anyone else on the coaching staff.

Asked if he had been told if he would be returning next year, the second year head coach quickly shot down any future questions about the temperature of his coaching seat after the Giants fell to 4-9 on Sunday with a lopsided loss to the Chargers.

“Let me make this really perfectly clear: on mine or anybody else's hypothetical future, I'm never gonna comment,” Judge said. “Does everybody understand that?”

Judge has consistently gushed over the future outlook of Big Blue, even with little evidence on the field to support his belief. Even after New York was blasted 37-21 by Los Angeles, Judge praised the foundation that was being built, and continues to believe that the franchise will turn things around after just clinching its fifth straight losing season.

But co-owner John Mara was angry to the point of knocking over trash cans after a Week 3 loss to the Falcons, and was booed on the field during pregame ceremonies for Eli Manning’s jersey retirement prior to that loss. Still, he publicly backed Judge a month later, though little has shown that the outlook for the Giants has improved since. So, the front office’s thoughts on Judge could have changed at this point, but Judge will never talk about that possibility publicly.

“Point blank, you can ask me about [defensive coordinator] Pat Graham, I’m not gonna answer you,” Judge said. “You can ask me about [defensive backs coach] Jerome Henderson, I’m not gonna answer you. You can ask me about a number of coaches, I’m not gonna answer. I’m not gonna answer about myself either.”

Judge is now 10-19 as New York’s head coach, and the Giants are seemingly caught in a mess with the injured Daniel Jones preventing the team from gathering any more evidence of whether he is their answer at quarterback, while skill position players like Kenny Golladay and Evan Engram continue to struggle despite high expectations. Another season of frustration could lead to a change in coaching, though there haven’t been any reports that such a move is on the horizon. But if Judge’s seat starts to heat up as the season winds down, he likely won’t speak a word on it to reporters.

“I’m not gonna speak on hypotheticals,” Judge said. “I’m interested in building this team and moving forward, and our focus after [Monday] will shift to the Cowboys.”
