Joe Schoen on if Giants current recipe for success is sustainable: '6-2'

The Giants stood pat at the trade deadline, deciding that the price tags for positions of need were ultimately not worth the asking price.

So, Big Blue will move forward with the rest of the season with what they have, hoping their plethora of fourth-quarter comebacks will continue to lead to wins.

But is there concern that so many late-and-close games will eventually lead to a return to the mean? Was Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks a foreshadowing that fourth quarter breaks won’t always fall New York’s way, and a 6-2 start to the season is not sustainable?

General manager Joe Schoen says the record speaks for itself.

“6-2,” Schoen said bluntly when asked if his team’s current recipe for success can last. “Recipe or not, it’s working.”

It is certainly working in terms of wins and losses, as the Giants have been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL this season. Many hoped that would lead to the team being rewarded with an aggressive trade deadline, but in the end, Schoen and company kept the big picture in mind, while still expressing belief in the team that have as currently constructed.

“There's a lot of tough dudes that care about each other and love football,” Schoen said. “The guys are resilient, they don't give up.”
