Keith likes what he sees from Tommy DeVito: 'I think this kid is gonna stick around'

Tommy DeVito hasn’t lit up the scoreboard in any of his three NFL starts, but Keith has seen some signs of promise that suggest the New Jersey native has some staying power.

“When I’m watching him play versus Tyrod or Daniel Jones, I know he’s not afraid,” Keith said. “He takes a lot of sacks, but I can’t hate on the guy in his fourth game. I think this kid is gonna stick around. He’s from the area, he’s got moxie, he’s got toughness, he’s become a cult favorite, and he might be able to keep learning and improving.

“He might not have the stature of a Daniel Jones, and he might not be a high draft pick like Zach Wilson, but he’s winning, and he’s throwing the ball. He’s moving the offense. He’s finding ways to win. He wasn’t lighting up the scoreboard against the Patriots, but he was putting drives together, getting the W. I think he’s gonna stick around.”

Keith says DeVito is disregarded by many simply because of how he got into the league, though there have been plenty of improbable stories, the most notable being Tom Brady, of players who were buried at the bottom of the draft, or not drafted at all, and became stars. DeVito likely won’t reach that level, but why can’t he become a solid NFL quarterback?

“Everything is ‘Where did he go to school? Where was he drafted? How tall is he?’” Keith said. “His story is the best thing we have to talk about, to lean on, to root for, and I hope the kid keeps winning.”
