Social media has been all over the New York Giants for the last few days thanks to Daniel Jones’ rumbling mishap Thursday night, but one ex-Giant used Twitter on Monday and Tuesday to throw shade at the Big Blue offensive line.
Lawrence Tynes, who was the kicker on the Giants’ last Super Bowl championship team, Tweeted out praise of Los Angeles Rams tackle Andrew Whitworth during Monday night’s Bears-Rams game, noting how Whitworth, even at age 39, would have been a better answer to the team’s left tackle issues than those that have held the job in the last few years.
Of course, fans may remember that Whitworth had interest in coming to the Giants when he was a free agent in 2017, but said that “they didn’t want me” – instead, the Giants stuck with 2015 top pick Ereck Flowers, and while Whitworth has gone to a Pro Bowl and a Super Bowl as a Ram, the Giants have used seven different opening day starters at the two tackle spots over the last four years, including top 2020 pick Andrew Thomas.
Later, on Tuesday, Tynes doubled down on his left tackle theory as he prepares for the next edition of the New York Post’s “Blue Rush” podcast:
Hindsight is 20/20, but it’s safe to say that Tynes isn’t worried about burning any bridges in that rear view mirror.
