“We’re underdogs – I don’t need Vegas to pick this one. I guarantee you we’ll be underdogs, and we’ll probably be underdogs every game we play the rest of the way. And that’s cool.”
Strong but rallying words from Giants defensive back Logan Ryan, talking to Moose & Maggie on Tuesday about his mindset heading into a game in Seattle where quarterback Daniel Jones is likely unavailable. The game would already be a difficult baseline, but with Colt McCoy under center, the Giants may not be as capable of exploiting the Seahawks’ poor pass defense.
Ryan isn’t scared, though, because he knows what the Big Blue defense is capable of.
“We started dead last in the pack, and now we’re in the middle the pack. We’re trying to finish strong, and we have a way to go,” Ryan said. “Seattle is a really good offense, and whatever we have going on, we have to believe in ourselves. Backups become starters and rookies become premier players in this league, so you never know. All I can preach is practice and work hard, bring it on Sunday under the lights, and see what happens.”
Far be it to use a division rival’s rallying cry, but when it comes to underdogs, you may remember Jason Kelce saying during the Eagles’ Super Bowl parade in 2018 that “no one likes us, we don’t care” and that the Eagles’ rallying cry was “we all we got, we all we need.”
That’s right up Ryan’s alley.
“My mindset is what makes Logan Ryan; it’s my mentality, my belief in myself and my hard work,” he said. “We’re underdogs, but you have to live with that – and that’s cool, because you don’t need a lot of people to believe in you in life to accomplish great things. I was never really the top dog going into anything ever; I’ve always had to outwork and outlast people.”
