Giants safety Logan Ryan has tested positive for COVID-19, and may miss Monday night’s in Tampa against the Buccaneers.
Ryan, who is a former teammate of Tom Brady’s in New England, did not practice Friday due to COVID protocols, and was later confirmed by head coach Joe Judge to have tested positive on a rapid test taken Thursday.
According to the head coach, the team is waiting on more results from a PCR test, but they’re going through close contract tracing protocol and will likely place Ryan – who is vaccinated and also reportedly asymptomatic – on the COVID list to open a roster spot. Ryan hasn’t yet been ruled officially out, but he would have to test negative twice 24 hours apart to be able to play Monday.
A concern beyond Ryan’s status is that there is at least one member of the Giants’ defensive backfield, safety Xavier McKinney, who had admitted to being unvaccinated, so the injury-plagued Giants will hope Ryan’s case does not lead to an outbreak.
Linebacker Lorenzo Carter also missed practice for a third straight day Friday due to a stomach bug.
