Chris McMonigle was turned off by how unsure John Mara seemed of himself on Monday when discussing his decision to keep Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll following a three-win season with the Giants.
Meanwhile, C-Mac saw a general manager in Schoen who seemed to believe at his core that he had the job secured for years to come, even after a two-year stretch that will go down among one of the worst in the franchise’s 100-year history.
“Listen to some of the quotes from Joe Schoen when asked about a playoff mandate,” C-Mac said. “He talks like he had no doubt.
“He talks about playoff mandates as if John Mara would be foolish to give him one.”
Mara told reporters that his patience is wearing thin for the Giants to start winning, and that he better “be in a better mood” this time next year. Still, Schoen dismissed the idea of a playoff mandate, and C-Mac says Schoen seems to believe he is here for the long haul, and that his latest draft class secured his job moving forward, even after a terrible campaign that ended with Big Blue picking third overall in the next draft.
Meanwhile, Mara didn’t seem all too sure about his decision when talking with reporters at length.
“‘He believes in us,’” C-Mac quoted Schoen. “Yeah, well he spent 20 minutes talking like he doesn’t believe too much in you.”
