Jake Fromm took the starting reps for the Giants at practice on Wednesday, but the expectation is that Mike Glennon will still be under center as the team’s starter on Sunday against the Chargers.
“Mike’s still in the [concussion] protocol,” head coach Joe Judge told reporters on Wednesday. “He’s moving along at that place. We’re optimistic that he’ll be fully cleared and ready to play.”
Judge added that Glennon is expected to be a full participant in practice by Friday, but nonetheless, he said the team spent Wednesday operating as if Fromm, recently signed off the Bills’ practice squad, was the starter, but expect Glennon to be starting this weekend.
As for the Giants usual starter, Daniel Jones still doesn’t have a timetable for a return from the neck strain that kept him out of last week’s loss the Dolphins, but Judge remains optimistic that Jones’ season isn’t over.
“There’s not an immediate timeline,” Judge said. “This could change quickly, or it can change over time…we’re not gonna take any risks…there’s nothing that we’ve been told that would indicate that it is season-ending.”
Jones will be a participant at practice this week, but he still won’t be able to participate in any contact.
“He still hasn’t been cleared for contact, but he’ll continue to go through practice like he did last week,” Judge said. “He’ll throw with the team, he’ll move, he’ll be in all the meetings, we’ll see if anything changes in terms of his status, but he has not been cleared for contact yet.”
