Moose: Becoming more difficult 'by the week' to justify Giants keeping current regime in place

As the Giants hit another new low with a franchise record 10th straight loss, Marc Malusis says Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll should be walking on shakier footing by the day.

“It is becoming more and more difficult by the week to defend or make a case for the current leadership to remain in place,” Moose said on Monday morning, after New York was blown out by the .500 Falcons to move into first place...in the running for the No. 1 overall pick.

“Three years ago was an outlier...unfortunately they leaned into that instead of realizing that they needed to rebuild this Giants organization.”

That first season was a dream for Big Blue fans, as Daboll won Coach of the Year and the Giants went to the playoffs and won a game on the road against the Vikings. But Moose says that year set the team back years, as it masked big changes that needed to be made, and led to Daniel Jones’ $160 million contract. The following season was a disaster, and now, after changes to the coaching staff, it has gotten even worse.

“Wink Martindale as a defensive coordinator was really good, and when he left...you can’t tell me that Giants organization wasn’t weakened,” Moose said. “That had everything to do with his relationship with head coach Brian Daboll.”

Now, if things hold as they are now, Daboll may finally get the chance to draft and develop his own quarterback in likely Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward, but Moose says it is becoming more difficult to justify giving Daboll and Schoen that chance, even if the current roster is decimated at this point.

“Drew Lock is brutal. It’s amazing he got the one-year deal that he did,” Moose said. “But this team isn’t necessarily a quarterback away.”
