Moose: Idea that Brian Daboll's job is on the line is 'complete and utter nonsense'
Marc Malusis talked Giants football with SNY’s Connor Hughes on Thursday, and Hughes suggested that Brian Daboll’s job is on the line should things go haywire for Big Blue in year three of Daboll’s tenure.
Moose understands Daboll’s footing as Giants head coach could change if 2024 proves to be epically disastrous, but on Friday, he pushed back hard on the idea that Daboll’s seat is even lukewarm at this point.
“There is too much negativity when it comes to the Giants this year,” Moose said. “We all lived through the Dave Gettleman era and Pat Schurmur and Joe Judge…but the idea that Schoen and Daboll this year, that their jobs are on the line, is complete and utter nonsense.
“Of course things could change. If the Giants go out there and win one or two games this year, things could change. But sitting here before the start of Labor Day weekend, Brian Daboll is not going anywhere.”
Daboll guided the Giants to an improbable divisional round berth in his first year as head coach, but injuries and regression led to a disastrous 2023 campaign. New York’s recent history has included several short and frustrating head coaching tenures, but Moose says Daboll is not going to be joining that list.
“John Mara has craved stability within the Giants organization. The Giants have been unstable,” Moose said. “But Brian Daboll doesn’t enter this season with some sort of playoff edict.”
