After watching the latest episode of Offseason Hard Knocks, Marc Malusis left with one major takeaway: the John Mara criticisms are unwarranted.
“For the Giant fan who sees John Mara as this meddling co-owner, that it’s gotta be his way or the highway, or is in control of personnel decisions, that’s gotta go out the window,” Moose said. “That nonsense has to come to an end.”
Moose commended the Giants co-owner for asking the questions that needed to be asked from the business side when it came to Saquon Barkley, who was the face of the franchise, the fan favorite who sold by far the most jerseys, and the impact losing him would have on the organization, not to mention the on-the-field impact given Barkley was the bulk of the offense for years. Moose says any owner would want answers to those questions, and ultimately, he let Barkley go, and he should be commended for how that was handled.
“If you own something, the questions that need to be asked, have to be asked, because you co-own the team,” Moose said. “You’re gonna ask those who you put in charge to run the questions that need to be asked.”
“Name any single owner, and if you aren’t doing that, then you are an absolute and complete utter fool.”
So, while Mara has heard his share of criticism in recent years, Moose says the criticism of him “meddling” in football affairs is unwarranted.
“For anyone that looks at John Mara like he is this meddling, Jerry Jones-esque type of owner, that he is what Dan Snyder was with the Commanders, well that is complete and utter nonsense,” Moose said. “That has to come to an end. John Mara has hired football people to make football decisions.”
