Shaun Morash couldn’t help but feel some sense of happiness in watching the Commanders lose to the Bears on Thursday night, but not for the reason you may initially assume.
No, Morash wasn’t celebrating a loss by a Giants division rival, but rather a win by the lowly Bears, who could be competing with Big Blue for the No. 1 pick in the draft if New York’s season continues to crater.
“I’m about the big picture here,” Morash said. “I am not completely throwing in the towel. I hope they shock me and win these games. But if we start adding up pieces come December, if this really gets out of control, you can look back at the Commanders losing that game and go, ‘Man, Washington did the Giants a favor.’”
Asked who he would be hoping for the Giants to take with a No. 1 pick, Morash didn’t hesitate with Caleb Williams to be Daniel Jones’ replacement.
“I’m sorry, he is the next Andrew Luck promised guy,” Morash said. “It doesn’t it mean will work out, or that I don’t want Daniel Jones to work out, but sometimes really bad things turn into really good things.
“I’m rooting like hell on Sunday. I want Daniel Jones to throw three touchdowns and shake off everything. But, I think we’re at a point in Giant fandom where you have to have all options on the table this year.”
