Morash: Daniel Jones is under more pressure than anyone else in New York football

The Giants are in action on Friday night for their preseason opener, ready to show what they’ve been working on this offseason while operating under the shadows of their fellow MetLife Stadium residents in the hyped Jets.

Still, despite being able to operate under the radar this spring and summer, Shaun Morash says Daniel Jones may have the most at stake than anyone else in New York football this year.

“Daniel Jones is the guy under the most pressure in this town this year,” Shaun said, noting a stabilized system, Jones’ recent contract signing, and the fact that the Giants can move on from him in two years if he doesn’t build on the momentum of last season.

Tiki believes Jones has been given the gift of being an afterthought in the city thanks to Aaron Rodgers, and if there is any pressure, he believes Jones will make the most of it.

In fact, he is doubling down on his assertion from Kickoff to Summer that Jones will have a better year than Rodgers.

“Daniel Jones has just glided underneath all of the expectation talk, all of the follow up from a pretty decent season last year,” Tiki said. “It really hasn’t happened this offseason because of what’s going on with the Jets. But I think Daniel Jones is well set up for a phenomenal second season under Brian Daboll and Mike Kafka.

“Aaron Rodgers has so many things going on with Hard Knocks, with a new group of players…an offensive line that increasingly looks like it’s all over the point. With continuity with the Giants, with Saquon Barkley back…an offensive line that’s getting better and a system that he is familiar with and going to advance in, Daniel Jones is ready to just thrive.”

Shaun is also expecting a big year from Jones, but because of that, it means the pressure is on, whether he is playing second fiddle in this city or not.

“Because of that optimism, how can I sit here honestly as a Giant fan and not say that doesn’t put him under the most pressure?” Shaun said. “We can say he’s well positioned in year two to do these things and take that next step…you are about to be out of excuses. He has maybe the best left tackle protecting his blind side in football. He has one of the best weapons to get the ball to under pressure in Darren Waller…Daniel Jones cannot have excuses now, especially that the rookie contract is over and he’s making real money.”
