Giants co-owner John Mara says he wants Odell Beckham Jr. to be a Giant for years to come but that there's no sense of urgency in signing the star wide receiver to a new contract.
"The contract will get done when it's supposed to get done," Mara said at the Gridiron Gala held by the United Way on Tuesday night. "I think that is the (general manager) Dave Gettleman line. I think I'm going to adopt that. All spring, all summer, as long as it takes."
Beckham, 25, is reportedly seeking a deal that would make him the NFL's highest-paid wide receiver. The three-time Pro Bowler is set to earn $8.46 million next season in the final year of his rookie contract.
After seemingly toying with the idea of trading Beckham in March, the Giants now seem poised to keep him on their roster in 2018 and beyond.

Beckham has been participating in the team's voluntary offseason program and attended minicamp, although he didn't participate in drills as he continues to recover from his season-ending ankle injury last year.
It'll be interesting to see what happens if Beckham does not have a new contract in place by the start of training camp. Might be hold out?
"It's not the first contract negotiation we've ever had," Mara said. "It'll get done when it's supposed to get done."
Not helping Beckham's case is that he has had a tumultuous offseason. In March, a viral video showed him holding what appeared to be a brown cigarette while he was in bed with an aspiring French model near a plate with lines of a white substance on it. Beckham was also named in a $15 million lawsuit filed by a man claiming he was brutally beaten by the Giant's hired bodyguard and another man.

Shortly after, Mara said he had grown tired of answering questions about Beckham's behavior. That led to Gettleman sending mixed signals publicly about whether Beckham would be back on the team next season.
In the first four seasons of his career, Beckham, has amassed 313 receptions for 4,424 yards with 38 touchdowns. He was limited to just four games last season due to injuries.
