Quentin Johnston, arguably the top wide receiver in the NFL Draft, sported blue and red colors with Temple High School in Texas before moving on to TCU, where he became a star.
Now, after meeting with the Giants at the NFL Scouting Combine, Johnston could see himself wearing blue again.
“I for sure see myself, if possible, in that blue just like I was in high school,” Johnston told reporters on Friday.
Big Blue has a clear receiver need, as arguably their top receiver, Isaiah Hodgins, became one of just two Giants wideouts on contracts heading into the offseason after inking a minimum deal at the end of the season. After meeting with the team this week, Johnston is hopeful that something could come of it.
“I met with them Wednesday I believe, and I’m meeting with them again sometime soon,” Johnston said. “Very welcoming staff. Had good talks with them.”
Johnston to the Giants has been part of some mock drafts, including ESPN’s Mel Kiper’s latest mock, though he sees Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba as being the top receiver taken in the draft. But Johnston believes his confidence and physical ability gives him a special combination that makes him a special player.
“Physicality has something to do with it,” Johnston said, “But if you want to be any type of successful in this sport it’s all a mindset. It’s all that want-to, that I’m going to go get it and saying, ‘I’m better than you.’ Not to be cocky about it, but that’s how I approach every play.”
