The Giants’ first unit on offense looked like a well-oiled machine on Friday night, marching 75 yards seemingly at will against the Panthers for a scoring drive that led Brian Daboll to sit his starters immediately after, believing he saw all he needed to see.
Sal has been high on Big Blue coming into the season, but that first drive was all he needed to see to reassert, and expand upon, his belief that New York will be the real deal in year two under Daboll and company.
“I don’t think this an overreaction to what we saw this weekend, but I really believe the Giants are legitimate, Super Bowl contenders,” Sal said. “I’m not gonna say they’re favorites. You’ve heard me talk about them winning the division in recent weeks, but man, all the pieces are in place. I believe these coaching is in place…the coordinators are in place, I think the moves they made were brilliant…I could see Daniel Jones taking the next step.”
Sal’s belief doesn’t just come from his bullish outlook on the Giants. Rather, that optimism coupled with his lack of belief in the rest of the NFC (with the 49ers facing big quarterback questions and the Giants “closing the gap” on the Eagles), has Sal believing 2023 could be a very special year for Big Blue.
“The landscape of the NFC isn’t very strong,” Sal said. “I know their division is probably the toughest challenge…but I think the Giants are legit Super Bowl contenders.”
