Sal: 'Dumbest thing' Giants could do is think about firing Brian Daboll, Joe Schoen

With the Giants sitting at 0-2, including a painful loss to the Commanders, some have already begun to wonder how bad things would have to get for Brian Daboll to lose his job.

Daboll himself was asked about his job security after Sunday’s loss, but Sal believes the idea of moving on from the head coach, even at the end of the season, would be ludicrous.

“No, it’s ridiculous. The dumbest thing the Giants could do is think about firing Brian Daboll, or Joe Schoen for that matter,” Sal said. “They need stability…it shouldn’t be automatically going to the next thing and already talking about firing Daboll or Schoen. That would be the biggest mistake they could make.”

Sal doesn’t care about the potential of Bill Belichick, who he says failed at drafting and developing quarterbacks like Mac Jones. This season could get ugly for the Giants, but if it does, he wouldn’t even think about moving on from Daboll.

“It’s about being smart or stupid as a franchise,” Sal said. “They’ve done the same thing year after year. Hire a guy they believe in, he fails immediately, and fire him. This used to be an organization that used to have great stability and patience. Now it’s every other year, they’re changing things. This is not the regime to be changing or thinking about changing in year three.

“I really don’t care how bad it’s gonna get. I’ve seen enough in the first three years, and even in the first two weeks of the season, to believe in Daboll…I still think they have to ride it out. Stability can go a long way. Patience can go a long way.”
