Sal was high on the Giants going into the season, but even he had to admit that he hasn’t seen as horrid a performance as Big Blue showed on Sunday in a very long time.
“I don’t know if we’ve ever seen an uglier game from one team,” Sal said.
Still, while Sal is already prepared to admit he was wrong in considering the Giants as potential legit contenders this season, he still isn’t ready to say that they have no chance to get back to the playoffs, especially in an expanded postseason field, after just one game, regardless of how lopsided it was, and how wide the gap looked between the Giants and the best of the NFC after Sal expected Big Blue to show that the gap was closing.
“If anything, it looked wider. That’s my problem with it,” Sal said. “However, there is a difference between saying I was dead wrong about the Giants closing the gap on the Cowboys and Eagles and being a legit contender. I admit, I was wrong about that, even after one week. However, I’m not giving up on Daboll and Jones and the season just yet. I still think this team will be a playoff team. It’s one week.
“As ugly as it was…I said I wouldn’t overreact on Friday, I’m not gonna overreact,” Sal said. “It was ugly, but I still believe the Giants will be OK.”
