Sal Licata takes exception to those who say he hates the Giants and Daniel Jones, but he does believe that the team isn’t a “legit” playoff team, even as Big Blue gets set to clinch a playoff spot on Sunday with a win at home over the lowly Colts.

“This notion that I hate Daniel Jones and the Giants is just not true…matter of fact, I like Brian Daboll a lot,” Sal said. “I back organizations that are, in my opinion, doing the right thing and doing the smart thing.

“The Giants, with Brian Daboll here, I’m all for it. I just don’t think that they’re very good. I think they’ve had a great season and it’s a great accomplishment to get to the postseason. I just don’t think they’re that good. I like Daniel Jones and his competitiveness, I just don’t think he’s a great quarterback.”

Jerry pushed back on Sal’s claim that the Giants aren’t a real playoff team, and questioned the belief that making the playoffs doesn’t move the needle much for a team that seems destined to be a one-and-done. Sal wouldn’t say that Big Blue clinching a playoff spot doesn’t carry any meaning, but it doesn’t feel like other teams clinching postseason berths.

“Not ‘What’s the point?’ but it feels limited,” Sal said. “Most times you get in the postseason and you’re like, ‘There’s a chance.’ This year, I feel like…the Giants aren’t a traditional playoff team. it’s not their fault. It’s either the league and the parity where there’s no great teams, the extra playoff team…I just don’t think they’re a legit playoff team. I don’t see much of a difference between the Giants and teams that didn’t make it or aren’t going to make it.”
