Sal worried Giants could wind up 'reaching' for quarterback in NFL Draft

BT wants to see the Giants get aggressive in the first round of the draft next week and move up to take their quarterback of the future, but with no clear option after Caleb Williams and perhaps Jayden Daniels, Sal is worried Big Blue could get caught reaching instead of just taking the best player available.

“I don’t want them to take one just to take one,” Sal said. “Obviously it’s a position of need…I feel like that starts to reek of desperation.

“They better freaking love this guy. Unless you love them, I’m calling everybody’s bluff…then if you get him at six, you don’t trade up, you like the player enough to take him there, and you take your chances.”

Sal would be wary of trading up to try and get a quarterback that has a lot of questions in terms of his ability at the NFL level, like J.J. McCarthy or Drake Maye. He would rather see Joe Schoen take a stud wide receiver and look to the trade market or free agency for their next quarterback once Daniel Jones is gone, rather than waste a top pick on a potential project.

“I’m certainly not reaching, and certainly not trading up for a player who was projected to go mid-to-late first round,” Sal said. “It seems like since they need a quarterback, they’re gonna be reaching for McCarthy.”
