Saquon Barkley not at Giants practice due to personal reasons

Saquon Barkley’s road back from his ACL tear took an unexpected pause on Wednesday, as the star running back was not with the team in New England due to personal reasons.

Giants head coach Joe Judge told reporters on Wednesday morning that Barkley, who recently began training with the team with hopes of being ready for Week 1 against Denver, was not present as New York began join practices with the Patriots.

Judge said Barkley was excused from the joint practice, but expects him to be back with the team on Thursday.

When Barkley does return, he will wear a non-contact jersey and won’t be cleared to play until he is able to practice with pads.

Big Blue has been cautious with Barkley’s rehab progress, but Judge has continued to say that the process is going well. Week 1 is just three weeks away.
