Report: Saquon Barkley to begin practicing with Giants this week

Saquon Barkley is back.

According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, the Giants star running back is making his return to practice this week in a significant step back from a torn ACL. Per Schwartz, Barkley will be activated off of the physically unable to perform list as Big Blue prepares for its first preseason game, which comes against the Jets on Saturday.

Barkley won’t play in that preseason game, and likely won’t play in the preseason at all, but with the season opener roughly five weeks away, a return to practice this week would put the 24-year-old on a promising timeline to be ready for the start of the season, as the team has maintained hope he would.

Barkley suffered his ACL on Sept. 20 of last year against the Bears, and was lost for the rest of the season. The 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year tallied 1,307 rushing yards in 2018, and followed that up with 1,003 yards in 2019.
