Tiki and Morash debated whether or not Daniel Jones should play in preseason games, and the two were split on the subject.
Jones told reporters that he would like to test himself out in preseason games as he works his way back from ACL surgery, but Tiki says Brian Daboll should sit his starting quarterback, and not put him at risk of getting injured by an opponent looking to make his mark on his own team and make a 53-man roster.
“The last thing you want to happen in a preseason practice or preseason game is somebody to try to make the team off of you,” Tiki said. “Making a big hit, a big moment, a ‘look at me’ moment, it puts you on tape. If you’re a veteran or a starting quarterback, it’s the last thing you need…someone young and inexperienced does something stupid in a preseason game.”
Morash says Jones needs to get some game action under his belt before the season starts, especially with a revamped offensive line that needs time to get acclimated with each other.
“I think he should play. If for no other reason, he should play with whatever they envision the five starts of the offensive line,” Morash said. “I think it is so important to get that cohesion. Whether it’s a series or two series, I think every single rep for this team is gonna matter.
“I want to see this team ready to go if they’re gonna give us a season.”
