Tiki explains why keeping Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll was right choice for Giants

Many fans are frustrated with Giants ownership electing to stick with Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll, especially coming off a season in which Big Blue won just three games in what was an embarrassing “celebration” of the franchises’ 100th anniversary.

Tiki Barber understands the perception, especially coming off the year the team just had, but he agrees with John Mara’s decision to keep Schoen and Daboll in their respective positions for a fourth season.

“You can’t keep turning over coaches,” Tiki said. “You just can’t do it every 2-3 years, fire this guy, fire this guy. Then it becomes an indictment on you as an ownership group and an organization.”

Tiki values the importance of stability, and even though the wins and losses haven’t been there over the past two seasons (not even close), it is important to keep a sense of consistency in place as the Giants try to rebuild their image and get back to contention.

“Even if that’s the only reason, then I think it was the right reason,” Tiki said. “The players wanted him back. They wanted Daboll back. Schoen felt safe anyway because of the long-term plan, and I think it was the right plan.

“Unfortunately, fans aren’t going to feel this way, but I’m okay with it.”
