As NFL free agency opens, the Eagles are reportedly expected to make an aggressive push for Saquon Barkley.
Shaun Morash says he would welcome that move, even as a rabid Giants fan.
“If we’re talking about $9 million, do I think the Giants should invest in Saquon Barkley? Yes,” Morash said. “But if Saquon is going to get a deal that the Giants are not willing to match, I think it’s a no-brainer that the Giants let him walk.”
According to reports, teams are interest in signing Barkley for as much as $13 million a year. If that’s the case, Morash would prefer the running back to sign with a rival and tie up their cap space to prevent them from improving other areas of the roster.
“If a team is gonna afford $10 million on the cap the next two years, I deem that as a mistake towards Saquon Barkley, often injured,” Morash said. “If any tram is gonna make that mistake…I want it to be the Eagles. I’d rather a rival make that mistake than a team like the Texans.
“I like him as a person and a player, but I’m done with him. I think the faster the Giants rid themselves of Saquon Barkley, the faster we can move on with this new regime.”
