BREAKING: Wink Martindale reportedly resigns as Giants defensive coordinator

UPDATE: According to multiple reports, including Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Wink Martindale has resigned as Giants defensive coordinator and will pursue head coaching or defensive coordinator opportunities elsewhere.

Daboll told reporters Monday morning that he expected Martindale to be back, but hadn't spoken to him yet. The Giants then fired OLB coach Drew Wilkins, a close assistant of Martindale's.

The Giants have fired offensive line coach Bobby Johnson and special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey, but Brian Daboll told reporters on Monday morning that he expects both of his coordinators in Wink Martindale and Mike Kafka to return next season.

“It’s my expectation that they’re gonna come back,” Daboll said. “I think they’re good coaches. It will be good to have some continuity and bring them back.

“I appreciate how hard they work and their commitment to the team. So that’s my plan.”

Reports earlier in the season indicated that Daboll and Martindale were headed for a split due to a contentious relationship, but that doesn’t seem to be the case given Daboll’s latest comments on Martindale’s future. While Daboll hasn’t had direct conversations with either of his coordinators yet when it comes to their future with the Giants, Daboll seemed confident that they will be back for the 2024 season.

“I haven’t talked to those guys yet,” Daboll said. “But that’s my expectation and that’s my plan.”
