Wink Martindale is reportedly another step closer to landing the Colts head coaching job, and, in turn, leaving the Giants after their resurgent season.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Big Blue defensive coordinator is lined up to have a second interview with Indianapolis on Saturday. Martindale met with the team last week virtually, but this time, he will be interviewing in person.
The Colts are in need of a head coach after firing Frank Reich during the season and replacing him with interim head coach Jeff Saturday, a move that was heavily questioned across the NFL. But team owner Jim Irsay is still considering keeping Saturday as the head coach.
Martindale will be tasked with convincing the Colts to hire him instead, though the Giants are hoping he stays around. He told reporters at the end of the season that he didn’t see his job with Big Blue as a “stepping stone,” but it would be hard for the longtime assistant to turn down a head coaching gig.
