It was supposed to be a Feel-Good Friday on Boomer and Gio, but as the two talked about the Taylor Swift craze surrounding Sunday's Jets game, and the United States getting spanked in the Ryder Cup, Gio couldn't help but lament at the state of his sporting world after so much hope and promise just a month ago.
"The fact that we're sitting here talking about this, and this being the big story going into Jets/Chiefs is disheartening. It's discouraging. It stinks," Gio said. "This was supposed to be a great New York football season, and the only thing interesting about this game is who the tight end is dating.
"Once again, everything I want to happen in sports, does not happen. Every single thing. I want Damian Lillard to go to the Knicks, he goes to the Bucks. I want the Jets and Giants to have great seasons, they both might be 1-5. I want the US to win the Ryder Cup, they're down 4-0 after day one."
There isn't much for Gio to be thrilled about with his sports teams, as the Mets are also wrapping up arguably their most disappointing season in franchise history.
"At least I'm going good in my picks. I'm the only one over .500 in my picks," Gio said. "Sports, why do we do this to ourselves?"
