The Booms was unable to host Monday's Boomer & Gio Show as scheduled, as the half-assed hotel he was staying at in the Washington D.C. area could not handle the logistics needed for him to host the show from our nation's capital.
And of course, the person most affected by it all was…well, it was Gio.
"Boomer was supposed to be live from D.C., but we get a bunch of text messages last night that was going to happen," Gio said. "Last night was one of those nights I was going to go to bed early, because nothing was going to happen – but I got up to use the bathroom around 10:30, and I see a slew of texts from all sorts of people!"
Mike Fliegelman was even in the mix, because he was doing the CBS Sports Minutes on Monday, which Gio had to take over – and put his own spin on.
"I just took the ones written for Boomer, but I made one editorial decision: there was one for Miguel Cabrera's 3,000th hit, and Boomer had written 'Felicidades, Miggy!'" Gio said. "I told Fliegelman I didn't want to do that, so I just said congratulations."
Jerry Recco wasn't surprised by the facilities snafu, but it gave Gio the chance to crow.
"That's the left thing I said to Boomer when he left on Thursday: 'hope that Wi-Fi works in that hotel,'" Gio said, "so I'm gonna do the Boomer Esiason flex today because I told ya so!"
At least everyone found out last night as opposed to compromising Monday's show, and Boomer did get to call in around 7 a.m., so all ended okay – but it gave Gio a chance to flex on Boomer for a change!
Take a listen to it all, including a record 391 uses of the "Half-Assery!" drop give or take a couple hundred.
