Gio: Great job by Brian Cashman, David Stearns at trade deadline
Gio opened Wednesday's show by applauding both Brian Cashman and David Stearns for the work they did at Tuesday's trade deadline.
"A trade deadline where both general managers managed to improve the team," Gio said. "They didn't give up a ton, but they didn't get a ton.
"I co-sign everything these two general managers have done. I'm not screaming about David Stearns or Brian Cashman not going all in."
The Yankees acquired Jazz Chisholm, who already made franchise history with four home runs in his first three games, and added some needed swing-and-miss stuff in the bullpen in relievers Mark Leiter Jr. and Enyel De Los Santos. The Mets brought in Jesse Winker, a clear upgrade from D.J. Stewart, while adding multiple bullpen arms along with A's starter Paul Blackburn. For Gio, given what top-end players were bringing back in a seller's market, the Yanks and Mets did the job.
"I think the Yankees, as presently constructed, are good enough to win the division and get to the ALCS," Gio said. "I think the Mets are good enough to get into the playoffs and maybe do a little damage."
