Gio: Mets and Yankee fans need to stop dreaming about Shohei Ohtani

With not much else going on at the All-Star break, all the talk has been about the upcoming trade deadline, with both the Yankees and Mets seemingly needing a boost to their rosters to meet the high expectations set in spring training.

Depending on the current teams that employ them, two of the brightest stars in the game in Juan Soto and Shohei Ohtani could become available, and New York fans are dreaming of adding one to their squads, especially Ohtani.

Gio threw some cold water on that idea, both in terms of the trade deadline and Ohtani's free agency this winter.

"He's not gonna be on the Mets or Yankees," Gio said. "The Yankees don't spend that type of money anymore…and Steve Cohen basically just said that the business model he currently has is unsustainable. He's paying all these players all this money and they're not any good. You're telling me he's gonna pay a guy $600 million for 10 years? A guy that doesn't even want to play in New York or on the east coast? A guy who has no ties to the Mets except Billy Eppler, the general manager who is probably going to be a lame duck in a couple months?

"Stop it. Shohei Ohtani is going to stay on the west coast. Stop thinking about it."
