Gio: This is the 'best time' for team to pounce on Trevor Bauer

Trevor Bauer tossed three scoreless innings on Sunday against the Yankees for Diablos Rojos in Mexico City, which led Gio to wonder what is scaring off MLB teams from signing the former Cy Young winner.

“He seems to be going about it the right way,” Gio said. “He’s done a ton of interviews, explained his side of the story. You’ve seen the evidence of the latest accuser trying to set him up…he has served his suspension, is out there pitching, and has said he doesn’t want a ton of money to get back to the major leagues.

“I truly believe it has more to do with his reputation prior to the allegations than the allegations themselves…but my counter to that would be, this is the perfect time. He seems rehabilitated.”

Bauer still has an active case pending after another accuser came forward, but he has not been found guilty of any crimes to date. After serving the longest sexual assault suspension in league history, Bauer has publicly talked about changing his image, and Gio says a team should take a chance and take Bauer at his word and acquire an accomplished pitcher for pennies on the dollar.

“He could be full of crap…I don’t know,” Gio said. “But I believe this is the best time to get him. He would cost you nothing, and he just went through all of this stuff publicly. You think he’d be rehabilitated in some way.”
