The Islanders escaped with a 2-1 victory over the Rangers on Thursday night, and Ilya Sorokin was the star, making 29 saves but none more highlight-reel worthy than his first period robbery of Artemi Panarin.
The Rangers took a feed from new teammate Frank Vatrano and fired a shot towards a wide open net, only for Sorokin to sprawl out to his right and stretch his stick out in desperation, blocking the shot with his stick and deflecting it out of harm’s way.

NHL Twitter quickly coined the stop as a prime candidate for Save of the Year.
Sorokin made a number of great stops on Thursday, helping the Islanders improve to 4-0-1 in their last five games.
