Gio: Islanders better not trade anyone away after recent hot streak

The Islanders are suddenly rolling under Patrick Roy, as some line shuffling has unlocked a new gear for New York, winners of three straight after a dominant win over the powerful Bruins on Saturday.

The Islanders are right back in the thick of the playoff race, having beaten three likely playoff teams in the past week. And Gio says they have earned the right to go for it this season with the trade deadline coming this week.

"They better not trade anybody away," Gio said. "Whatever happened, they're back."

Boomer isn't sure what route Lou Lamoriello and company will take at the deadline, but if the Islanders can perform like they have over the last three games, they can be a dangerous team in the playoffs.

"I do see both sides of it," Boomer said. "There are guys that don't want to leave and may have to. There are guys that love their teammates and love their teams, and they want to stay with their trams. The good thing for the Islanders, it seems like they may have figured it out over the last 3-4 games.

"With that goalie and that defense, when they're healthy…don't think about being the Wild Card. Think about being that third team in the Metro."
