The Islanders will try to tap into the younger generation when they take the ice on Saturday night.
The team will unveil its Nickelodeon Night, incorporating Nickelodeon shows and characters into the broadcast suing the Islanders HomeIce Experience, powered by the HomeTurf app. Fans using the app will be able to interact with trivia, polls, team videos and unique celebration graphics featuring Nickelodeon characters.
The NFL broadcasted one of its playoff games on Nickelodeon last season in an effort to grab younger audiences, using green slime graphics after touchdowns in a broadcast that was well received.
"The New York Islanders are excited to partner with Nickelodeon, a company that has entertained generations of Islanders fans for years," Danielle Lewis, Director of Game Presentation, said in a press release. "We are always looking for new ways to provide memorable experiences, and with Nickelodeon's innovative, nostalgic and entertaining programming, it was a perfect fit to join efforts and connect with fans of all ages."
Characters from Spongebob Squarepants, Rugrats and Rocket Power will be featured when the Islanders take the ice against the Flyers at 7 p.m.
