Islanders offseason community efforts kick into high gear
While the Islanders would prefer to be taking part in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the reality is that preparations for the 2025-26 season are already underway with the search for a new President and General Manager to replace Lou Lamoriello.
But the off-season also includes staying engaged with the fan base and those initiatives have begun in earnest with a pair of recent events showing the Islanders commitment to the Long Island community.
This past Saturday at Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, the Islanders hosted a "Sports Science Clinic" presented by Northwell featuring 100 young players working with Islanders alumni including Arron Asham, Thomas Hickey, Benoit Hogue, Radek Martinek, Steve Webb and Thomas Hickey.
He's not an alum just yet, but Islanders forward Matt Martin was also on hand as a coach. Martin is expected to soon announce his retirement from the NHL.
The event gave young athletes the opportunity to develop advanced hockey techniques while exploring the science behind the game.
Back on April 27th, the Islanders made their "Play It Forward" Scholarship announcement at an event at UBS Arena. Three children received scholarships for the "Learn to Play" program for three years with all costs covered. In collaboration with Northwell, the Islanders are providing opportunity on the ice for children from underserved communities.
As the Islanders look towards a new era in team history on the ice, they continue to show why the map of Long Island is on their logo by showing their commitment to the community in which they play in and play for.
