The Islanders announced Tuesday morning that both head coach Barry Trotz and top defenseman Ryan Pulock have both been placed in COVID-19 protocol.
The timing is brutal for New York, as Pulock was expected to return soon from a lower body injury that has kept him out since the middle of November, when he left with an injury during a game against the Lightning.
Pulock has played in just 12 games this season, and had begun skating on his own last month, but his return will likely be pushed back even further now.
Meanwhile, Trotz had just returned to the team on Saturday after spending a week away due to the passing of his mother.
