Mathew Barzal has been following the Brooklyn Nets since he began his Islanders tenure in 2016. An avid basketball fan, Barzal has seen the franchise go from afterthought to contender during his time on Long Island, as the Nets are once again considered to be a legitimate threat in the Eastern Conference.

But Barzal is also a big James Harden fan, and doesn’t approve of the superstar being dealt to the 76ers for Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, and a pair of first-round draft picks.

“I’m not [a fan],” Barzal said when asked about the trade following the Islanders’ 5-2 win over the Kraken on Tuesday night. “I want him on the Nets. I’m rooting for the Nets this year. I love [Kevin Durant]. I didn’t love this trade.”

Barzal is one of New York’s franchise cornerstones, and the Nets just lost a player that they thought would be something similar to Brooklyn. And Barzal isn’t happy about it.
