BT: Aaron Rodgers may still try to return this year to vindicate coaches, boost Jets morale

Now that the Jets have been officially eliminated from playoff contention, Sal says that should be the end of Aaron Rodgers potentially playing again this season.

BT isn’t so sure, citing the need to inject some life into a team that could soon see itself losing the desire from its youthful core.

“I think it could help morale, and that’s something they need…I see both sides,” BT said. “This is probably a conversation for down the road, but not too far down the road. The Jets need to start worrying about some of their really elite young players wanting to leave.

“Does Garrett Wilson look like he’s having fun? No. Does Sauce Gardner look like he’s having a good time? No. Does Breece Hall? No.”

BT also noted the possibility of Rodgers still wanting to play to try and renew faith in the coaches that he signed up to play for, including his longtime friend Nathaniel Hackett, who has been widely criticized by fans this season.

“If Aaron Rodgers really feels that much of a connection to Nathaniel Hackett, he’s going to try to show people, even if it’s in a meaningless game or two, that with him, the offense works,” BT said. “If he comes out and plays Christmas Eve, and the Jets put up 27 and win…it changes the narrative around the Jets. I’m not saying it should, but it will. I think he’s keenly aware of that.”
