Sal: Best case scenario is Aaron Rodgers doesn't play another down for Jets

As the Jets shift their focus to the Cowboys and Week 2, Sal says it’s time to turn the page on Aaron Rodgers, who is done for the year with a torn Achilles.

In fact, now that he is out for the season, Sal says Jets fans should be hoping that the book is permanently closed on Rodgers’ brief Jets tenure, because of what it would mean if that is the case.

“It’s not about Aaron Rodgers anymore…Aaron Rodgers is gone,” Sal said. “Next year is a different story. The best-case scenario for the Jets is that Aron Rodgers never takes another snap for the Jets. This is now about Zach Wilson.

“It would be best for the New York Jets if we never saw Aaron Rodgers again. That would mean Zach Wilson is the guy and you can move forward with him, as opposed to relying on a guy coming off a torn Achilles at nearly 40 years old after taking four snaps the year before.”

Wilson has plenty of questions regarding his NFL future, but Sal says Jets fans would be best served to hope those are put to rest this season, rather than waiting a year for Rodgers to make a return. Rodgers’ arrival offered one of the most exciting times in Jets history, but Sal says the team would be better off if Monday night is the only game he appears in as a Jet.

“It’s not about Rodgers anymore. There’s nothing he can do,” Sal said. “He was brought here to throw the football for the New York Jets. He can’t do that anymore, so he is now out of the equation. It’s about Zach Wilson.

“I’m not saying Rodgers can’t be a friend or be there for advice. He’s going through his own ting right now. He’s not focused on coaching Zach Wilson and the Jets. He’s focused on rehabbing so he can ‘rise again’ next season…it’s not about Aaron Rodgers anymore.”
