Boomer & Gio: Aaron Glenn could be 'really, really bad idea' by Jets

The Jets are reportedly zeroing in on Aaron Glenn as their next head coach, a candidate that Gio has long been opposed of due to Glenn’s nonexistent head coaching experience.

Now, as the reality sets in that Glenn will be the latest defensive coordinator to take his first head coaching job with Gang Green, Gio isn’t feeling any more hopeful that things will work out.

“It's amazing, all of the drastic things that Woody Johnson did this year because it didn't work out. Firing Rob Saleh so early in the season, firing Joe Douglas…and it didn't work out,” Gio said.

“For him to just now repeat the same pattern and go and find a coordinator who is a first-time head coach and do this all over again, defensive [coordinator], by the way.”

Glenn, the Lions defensive coordinator, would join the likes of Saleh, Rex Ryan, and other coaches who took the head coaching gig in New York despite having no experience as a head coach, and there have been differing levels of success in that regard. Gio doesn’t see it being successful at all, which is why he has been wary of the idea since Glenn’s first interview.

“I'm not saying that you can't succeed with a defensive head coach…but here you go again,” Gio said. “We could very easily be wrong about this, and I hope that I am wrong about this.

“But it just, it feels to me like this is a just really, really bad idea.”

Boomer is in agreement, as he doesn’t believe a coach with no head coaching experience is the best fit for this Jets team, which has a lot that needs to be fixed.

“I don't necessarily know that the Jets is the best place because we've seen it,” Boomer said. “It's not the best place for an inexperienced head coach.”
